Rhythm 0: Our cruelty is retained by consequences

Rhythm 0: Our cruelty is retained by consequences.

This brief and visual post talks about Rhythm 0, a performance in which the author, Marina Abramović, let people do whatever they wanted to her with 72 different objects without any consequences. People started doing normal things with innofensive objects, but when they understood that she was not going to give any resistance, they started being agressive. People stripped her clothes, touched her however they wanted, hurted her physically and, at the end, one person pointed her on the head with a loaded gun.

Rhythm 0 brought to us one of the most interesting social experiments ever done, and one of the most terrifying ones. People’s reaction to Marina’s performance showed, as the post says, “the evil side of humanity”.

In my opinion, it suggests that maybe humans are rational and civilized just because in life there are always consequences to our actions. But, when there are no consequences, like in Marina’s performance, people leave rationallity and act  brutal, cruel and insane.

As a result, I wonder if we should be affraid of ourselves, because if control disappears, we are even worse than wild animals. Human’s cruelty is retained by fear to consequences, but as we can see, is always there.
