The photo 51: A story of science and greed.
In this aperture, the writer explains that Rosalind E. Franklin was a memorable scientist, who achieved a clear photo of DNA, the photo 51, which demonstrated that DNA was a helical structure. Her discovery brought an enormous advancement for molecular biology and human knowledge in many fields.
Unfortunately, the photo was stolen by two scientists called James D. Watson and Francis Crick. They were given the merit of the discovery and received fame and fortune, as if they were the owners of the experiment. Eventually, after many years, it was discovered that the photo was from Rosalind, and she was finally recognized as the author of the discovery.
From my view, what happened with Rosalind Franklin’s photo 51 represents the competitiveness that the march for DNA involved during the twentieth century. In addition to this, it also symbolizes the hypocrisy, lack of ethics and the constant sexism in the world of science. At the same time, it also remembers that justice is always there and at the end, everybody reaps what they sow.
